This award recognizes the profound impact of graduate students on undergraduate education at Penn. Nominations come directly from undergraduates and ten prizes are awarded annually.

University of Pennsylvania chemistry professor Jeffery Saven and his group are part of a team that has become the first to use computational methods to create the first custom-designed protein crystal. Protein design is a technique that is increasingly valuable to a variety of fields, from biochemistry to therapeutics to materials engineering.

Penn Chemistry Advisory Board member Jeffrey Beck passes away

Jeffrey S. Beck passed away on April 7 in Houston, TX. Jeff received his PhD from this department with Larry Sneddon in 1989 and has been a member of the Penn Chemistry Scientific Advisory Board since its inception. In addition to a memorial service in Houston, a service is being planned for New Jersey next month.
