James Petersson named a Searle Scholar

James Petersson, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, has been named a 2010 Searle Scholar. Just fifteen Scholars are named annually to support the independent research of outstanding young scientists who have recently joined the tenure-track faculty. Congratulations to James for this prestigious honor.
Robin Hochstrasser receives honor

Robin Hochstrasser is to receive the 2010 Pittsburgh Spectroscopy Award by the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh. Robin will be honored at an awards symposium in Orlando next week.

Distinguished Alumni Award Symposium Soon

P. Roy Vagelos, Retired Chairman and CEO of Merck & Co., will receive the inaugural Penn Chemistry Distinguished Alumni Award.
Dr. Vagelos career since his time at Penn Chemistry will be celebrated at a symposium on Wednesday, May 12. All alumni are welcome!
Penn Chemistry Alum wins National Medal of Science

JoAnne Stubbe, Novartis Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Biology at MIT, has been elected to receive the prestigious National Medal of Science. Prof. Stubbe, who recieved her B.A. in Chemistry from Penn in 1968 will receive the award from President Obama during a ceremony at the White House on October 7, 2009.
