Penn Chemistry Students Honored by NSF

Several Penn Chemistry students have been honored with National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships. Christian Gonzalez (Murray group), Aaliyah Khan (Rappe), Mika Maenaga (Goldberg), and David Polefrone (Kozlowski) all received this award.

Penn Chemistry Hires Andrew Zahrt

Dr. Andrew Zahrt, currently a postdoctoral associate with Prof. Klavs F. Jensen at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will join the Penn Chemistry Department as an Assistant Professor this summer.

Eric Schelter Receives Tantalum Prize

Prof. Eric Schelter has been awarded the 2022 Anders Gustaf Ekeberg Tantalum Prize. Eric accepted the prize on behalf of his research team in Geneva.

Chemistry Faculty Honored by AAAS

Professor Eric Schelter and Adjunct Professor Donna Huryn were both named Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Formed in 1848, the AAAS is the world's largest multidisciplinary scientific society and publisher of journals such as Science.

Dirk Trauner Joins Penn

Dirk Trauner has joined Penn as a Penn Integrates Knowledge University Professor, with joint appointments in the Department of Chemistry in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Department of Systems Pharmacology and Translational Therapeutics in the Perelman School of Medicine.

Colton Sheehan (Mallouk group) has been awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate research Fellowship. And Chris Fritschi (Smith group) has been recognized with a School of Arts & Sciences Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching by Graduate Students.

Joe Francisco Receives Gibbs Medal

President’s Distinguished Professor Joseph Francisco has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 Willard Gibbs Medal. The Gibbs Medal is awarded by the Chicago Section of the American Chemical Society to those who “because of eminent work in and original contributions to pure or applied chemistry, are deemed worthy of special recognition.”

Zahra Fakhraai Receives ACS WCC Award

Professor Zahra Fakhraai has been named a recipient of a 2021 Rising Star Award from the Women Chemists Committee of the American Chemical Society. The WCC Rising Star Award recognizes up to ten outstanding female-identifiying individuals individuals approaching mid-level careers who have demonstrated outstanding promise for contributions to their respective fields.
