Amos Smith Honored by RCS

Prof. Amos B. Smith, III has been selected the receive the Perkin Prize for Organic Chemistry from the Royal Society of Chemistry. The Perkin Prize is awarded for sustained originality and achievement in research in the area of organic chemistry.

MCS Program Partners with Blumberg Institute

An academic and research partnership has been created that enables University of Pennsylvania graduate students in the Master of Chemical Sciences program to apply and complete research within the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute, the nation’s leading nonprofit research organization dedicated to hepatitis B and liver cancer, which is based in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Andrew Rappe Named Keynote Lecturer of NPL Ferroelectrics Conference

Prof. Andrew Rappe has been selected as keynote speaker for the 2015 Ferroelectrics Conference hosted by the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington, UK. The meeting is designed to bring together industrial and academic communities involved with ferroelectric materials to exchange knowledge and expertise on the state of the art.

College undergraduates Lily Owei and Keith Keenan don’t have a whole lot in common when it comes to their backgrounds. She was born in Nigeria, where she lived for seven years before moving to Germany, then South Africa, and finally to the U.S. to attend Penn. He grew up in China, where his mother and father taught English and homeschooled him.

David Christianson has been named a Fellow of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard. David will be at Harvard next year as a Visiting Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology.
