"Probing ultrafast electron transfer in solution with high spatial and temporal resolution"
-The talk will describe the application of novel ultrafast techniques to measure charge and energy transfer pathways with sensitivity to coupled electronic, vibrational, and solvent/bath degrees of freedom in condensed phase molecular systems. As an example, ultrafast electron transfer in a solvated mixed valence system will be probed with multidimensional vibronic spectroscopy and ultrafast X-ray scattering and X-ray spectroscopy.
Research
The Khalil group seeks to understand charge transfer processes in solution at a microscopic level. One of our goals is to correlate electronic and atomic motion on ground and excited electronic surfaces. We use and develop various nonlinear spectroscopies employing ultrafast light pulses across the electromagnetic spectrum from Infrared (8 microns) to X-ray (0.4 nm) wavelengths.
