In 2007 Wyeth Research and Penn Chemistry renamed the annual lecture in organic chemistry the Madeleine Joullié Lectureship in Madeleine's honor. Funding for this lecture was generously provided by Wyeth, but with the Pfizer acquisition of Wyeth these funds will terminate in 2011. We are reaching out to Madeleine's colleagues, students and friends to help us create an endowment that will fund this lecture in Madeleine's name in perpetuity. As you well know, in addition to a career as a distinguished and prolific scientist and esteemed educator, and during her fifty-plus years as a faculty member at Penn, Madeleine has provided sage advice and counsel to thousands of individuals at every stage of their careers, providing inspiration for students and colleagues alike. Additionally, her service to our profession is also legendary, having served seminal roles in countless initiatives at the Department, University, national, and international levels. It is fitting that the Department honor her by establishing this lectureship, and I seek your assistance in doing so. Penn Chemistry will seed this endowment with $20,000.
We hope you will join us in making this effort a success. You can provide a gift at the link below. If you have any questions, please contact our Department Administrator, Mr. Chris Jeffrey, at cjeffrey@sas.upenn.edu.
